Ashlee Simpson-Wentz Jumps to Sister Jessica's Defense Over Weight Gain Debate

By Chloe Bunker on January 28, 2009

LOS ANGELES — Ashlee Simpson-Wentz is jumping to her sister's defense after photos of Jessica performing at the 99.9 Kiss Country 24th Annual Chili Cook-off on Sunday sent bloggers on a rampage about her weight gain.

"I am completely disgusted by the headlines concerning my sister's weight," wrote 24-year-old Ashlee on her blog. "A week after the inauguration and with such a feeling of hope in the air for our country, I find it completely embarrassing and belittling to all women to read about a woman's weight or figure."

Ashlee went on to say that her sister shouldn't be a target just because of her celebrity status.

"All women come in different shapes, sizes, and forms and just because you're a celebrity, there shouldn't be a different standard," wrote Simpson-Wentz.

"Is this something you would say to your wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, or even a friend? I seriously doubt it," she said.

The "Boyfriend" singer then asked her fans to think about the message being sent out to the younger generation.

"How can we expect teenage girls to love and respect themselves in an environment where we criticize a size 2 figure?," asked Simpson-Wentz.

"Now can we focus on the things that really matter," she ended.

Check out the Jessica Simpson Gallery for the pictures that set off the weight debate.
