NEW YORK — Alexa Ray Joel is improving after a medical emergency led to her being hospitalized over the weekend.
"Alexa is feeling much better," her rep said in a statement Monday. "She is with her family and looking forward to getting back on track."
"I want to thank everyone for their outpouring of love and support," added the 23-year-old singer, who is the daughter of pop star Billy Joel and supermodel Christie Brinkley.
Joel was rushed to St. Vincent's Hospital in New York City on Saturday after an apparent suicide attempt. According to the New York Daily News, she consumed several pills of the homeopathic medication Traumeel.
Joel has reportedly battled depression since breaking up with her former bandmate, Jimmy Riot, in January 2008. According to the Daily News, her health scare has prompted her to cancel a planned appearance at the New York Stock Exchange's 86th annual tree lighting ceremony on Thursday.
Joel is the only child of the "Piano Man" crooner and Vacation star, who divorced in 1994 after nine years of marriage.
