HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — American Idol star Crystal Bowersox has signed with 19 Recordings/Jive Records to release her debut album, which is expected to drop later this year.
"I’m really grateful to be given this opportunity to make an album and let people hear my music," the 24-year-old singer/songwriter said, "and I’m looking forward to working with all of the folks at 19/Jive."
The Ohio native finished as the runner-up to Lee DeWyze on the latest season of Idol, becoming the first female to reach the show’s finale since Jordin Sparks in 2007. Two of her singles, "Up to the Mountain" and "Falling Slowly," a duet with DeWyze, are currently burning up the charts.
"Crystal is one of the most naturally gifted and talented singer songwriters to have ever come out of Idol," said Simon Fuller. "The breadth of her talent is inspiring."
"In addition to being a gifted singer, Crystal has demonstrated that she has a dynamic stage presence and fans really connect with her sincerity and straight-forwardness," added Barry Weiss, Chairman and CEO of the RCA/Jive Label Group. "Crystal is in a league of her own and we look forward to working with her."
Bowersox is currently gearing up for the upcoming American Idol tour, which kicks off July 1 at the Palace of Auburn Hills in Detroit.
