HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Anderson Cooper is silencing rumors that he’s taking over for Regis Philbin on “Live! with Regis and Kelly.”
“It’s completely made up. I have no idea where it came from,” Cooper tells People of the rumor. “Regis is not retiring, and I’m very happy with what I’m doing.”
The CNN host has occasionally filled in for Philbin, an experiment that he says offers a different outlet than his nightly news duties.
“I love filling in for him, I love working with Kelly Ripa. … It’s nice to exercise different muscles,” says Cooper.
So what does Cooper think of the man he’s rumored to be replacing?
“Regis is the king,” he says. “He’s not going anywhere!”
