HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Raffaello Follieri, who is the boyfriend of actress Anne Hathaway, was arrested Thursday and charged with attempting to pass a bad check.
The check was reportedly for around $250,000, according to TMZ, which first reported the arrest.
Follieri, who is a real estate developer, apparently went willingly to New York police headquarters and has since been released, according to the report.
This is not the first run of bad press for the actress's boyfriend of four years. According to TMZ, Follieri was also recently ordered to pay a public-relations firm $250,000 for work done on his behalf.
In addition, last year he was sued by supermarket billionaire Ron Burkle for allegedly squandering $1.3 million of his business money to support his lavish lifestyle, an accusation that was denied by Follieri.
The actress spoke highly of her beau last year in an interview with London's Sunday Times.
"He's brought out so many positive attributes," she said. "Before I met him, I wasted so much time. I was just annoying and narcissistic and smelled bad. He's protective without being possessive, passionate without needing to show his temper."
