"Barbara Walters’ surgery went well and the doctors are very pleased with the outcome," spokeswoman Cindi Berger said in a statement. "Ms. Walters is recovering as expected. No further statements will be made at this time."

Walters, 80, announced the heart surgery earlier this week on The View, saying she would take a break from the daytime show for a few months and "come roaring back in September."

"My doctors and I have decided that this is the best time to do the surgery," the broadcasting legend said.

When asked by fellow View co-host Whoopi Goldberg if she was scared, Walters said: "Look, nobody wants to have this kind of surgery."

On Wednesday, Walters took to Twitter to assure her fans everything would be alright.

"Thank u for all good wishes. Very touched. I will be fine," she said.

Walters, who became the first female network news co-anchor more than 30 years ago, created ABC’s The View in 1997 with Bill Geddie.
