NEW YORK — Former President Bill Clinton was released from a New York City hospital Friday morning, less than 24 hours after undergoing an emergency heart surgery.
The 63-year-old Clinton, who underwent coronary bypass surgery in 2004, had two stents installed in one of his coronary arteries Thursday at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan. Accompanied by daughter Chelsea, he left the hospital “in excellent health,” according to his longtime advisor Douglas Band.
“President Clinton would like to thank the many people who extended their best wishes to him for a quick recovery,” Band said in a statement. “He looks forward in the days ahead to getting back to the work of his foundation, and to Haiti relief and recovery efforts.”
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton rushed from Washington D.C. to be by her husband’s side Thursday night. She has since postponed a trip to the Persian Gulf that was scheduled for this weekend.
