LOS ANGELES — Britney Spears was granted expanded visitation rights to see her two sons at a custody hearing Tuesday with her ex-husband Kevin Federline.
“We all see indicators of progress by Ms. Spears,” Federline’s attorney, Mark Vincent Kaplan, told reporters, according to Reuters. “What was a seemingly daily state of extreme flux has been stabilized.”
Federline still retains custody of the former couple’s children, but Kaplan said the 26-year-old Spears will now be allowed to see her kids for longer periods of time.
Last October, the once troubled pop star lost custody of 2-year-old Sean Preston and 1-year-old Jayden James. She then had her visitation rights revoked in early January after she refused to turn the children over to Federline’s bodyguard following a visit, a night that also saw her admitted to a hospital.
In February, the singer’s father was granted control over her personal and business affairs and her life was quickly stabilized. Soon thereafter, Federline agreed to allowing his ex-wife supervised visits.
“We are so pleased at Britney’s progress and we are very appreciative of the court’s recognition of this progress,” her parents, Jamie and Lynne Spears, said in a statement.
The pop star is due back in court on July 15 for another progress report.
