HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — She may have been shown the door at some of Hollywood’s hottest clubs, but Britney Spears knows she’s welcome at CBS.
Following a well-received guest appearance on the network’s “How I Met Your Mother,” the show’s producer is keeping the door open on the pop star’s potential return to the small screen.
“We always said, ‘You know, if her character pops, we’ll bring her back,’ ” the sitcom’s executive producer Carter Bays tells the Associated Press. “I thought she was great. I was very proud of that episode.”
On the March 24 show, the 26-year-old Spears played a receptionist at a dermatologist’s office. As the show ended, Spears’ character was seen flirting with Neil Patrick Harris’ character, Barney.
On the following episode, a “mystery woman” who’s been sabotaging Barney’s attempts to pick up women is mentioned. Could Spears turn out to be that mystery saboteur?
“Could be. There’s no reason why not,” Bays said, adding that actress Sarah Chalke (who guest starred in the Spears episode) could also come back.
When pressed further by AP if Spears might return, Bays said, “I don’t know the answer to that.”
What the producer does know is how bizarre it was having everyone’s favorite tabloid star on set.
“It was totally weird,” he said. “I think we have a very, like, kind of Midwestern homey vibe here on the show, and it was strange to suddenly have helicopters circling.”
