HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Brittany Murphy was suffering from flu-like symptoms in the days before her death, coroner’s officials said Monday.
The illness was reported to officials by Murphy’s family, who said the actress had taken prescription medication.
Murphy, 32, collapsed early Sunday in the bathroom of her Hollywood Hills home. She was pronounced dead a few hours later at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, which said she died from a cardiac arrest.
An autopsy is currently underway as officials seek to determine her official cause of death, the results of which likely won’t be known for several weeks.
Investigators spent several hours at Murphy’s home on Sunday, but do not believe the Clueless star’s death was a crime.
“We went to the scene to see if there was anything that suggests foul play, and there wasn’t,” Los Angeles police Detective Wendi Berndt told the Associated Press.
