HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Carrie Underwood is riding one heck of a wave.
The 26-year-old country star has landed her first movie role in Soul Surfer, the true-life story of surfing champion Bethany Hamilton, who defied all odds after having her left arm bit off by a shark at age 13.
Underwood will portray Sarah Hill, a youth counselor at Hamilton's church.
The movie also stars AnnaSophia Robb as Bethany Hamilton, Helen Hunt as Bethany's mother Cheri and Dennis Quaid as Bethany's father Tom.
Lorraine Nicholson, the 19-year-old daughter of screen legend Jack Nicholson, and Kevin Sorbo round out the cast.
Underwood has been on a role of late. In addition to getting engaged to hockey beau Mike Fisher, she recently shot a guest appearance on CBS' How I Met Your Mother. The former American Idol winner will also be singing the National Anthem at Sunday's Super Bowl.
