HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Carrie Underwood says she regrets mentioning that she still hears from her ex-boyfriend, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo.
"It was just something that was said in passing," the 25-year-old country star reveals in the December issue of Elle. "I would never mean to say anything to hurt anybody or to stir up anything because I'm just not about drama — at all."
In an August interview with Allure, Underwood said Romo was still ringing her and that she'll "maybe not answer." That prompted a quick response from Romo's current girlfriend, singer Jessica Simpson.
"Tony and I both laughed at that," Simpson quipped while appearing on Nashville's 107.5 FM's Woody and Jim show. "We got a chuckle out of it."
Underwood says she can understand why Simpson might have been upset.
"I might be mad too if somebody said my boyfriend was calling some other girl. So I can definitely see where [she] would be coming from," she tells the magazine.
For the record, Underwood says she hasn't spoken with Romo "since, like, May."
As for her current dating life, Underwood, who has been recently linked to former "Bachelor" star Travis Stork, says it's better to not kiss and tell.
"If I say I am [dating someone] or I'm not, as soon as this magazine comes out, it might be the opposite of what I tell you now," she says. "In three months, it'll be 'Carrie said she's not dating anybody,' yet last night, I was out on the town with some guy. He's going to get mad at me. Everybody's going to think I'm a liar. It's just best not to go there."
