Brooke Mueller and Charlie SheenHOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Charlie Sheen is firing back after a report surfaced early Thursday that one of his newborn sons is suffering from a heart condition.

“Charlie and Brooke’s infant son Max remains in the hospital, not because of a heart condition as reported, but because he has not gained the weight necessary to leave [the] hospital,” Sheen’s publicist said in a statement. “Max is expected to reach the weight requirement shortly and will join his brother at home.”

ETOnline.com reported early Thursday that Max was still hospitalized due to a heart condition.

Sheen, 43, and his wife, Brooke Mueller Sheen, 31, welcomed twin babies Max and Bob on March 14.

Attempting to lighten the mood, Sheen joked that his son was simply battling the common aversion to hospital food.

“The weight issue is very common among infants who were born before reaching full term,” he said. “I know a lot of people are not fond of hospital food; I just didn’t realize that they started so young.”

Sheen and Mueller tied the knot last May at a private estate in Los Angeles. It was the third marriage for the “Two and a Half Men” star, who has two daughters, Sam, 5, and Lola, 3, with ex-wife Denise Richards. He also has a 24-year-old daughter, Cassandra, with his former girlfriend Paula Profitt.
