The 29-year-old actor is expected to assume the role of CIA analyst Jack Ryan in the popular franchise based on Tom Clancy’s novels, Variety reports.

“Tom Clancy created an unforgettable character with Jack Ryan. With Chris in this role, we’ve taken our first step in creating a re-boot that lives up to the successful lineage of the franchise,” said Paramount president Adam Goodman in a statement.

Pine is no stranger to taking over a popular character, having played James T. Kirk in J.J. Abram’s summer hit Star Trek.

Alec Baldwin was the first to play Ryan in 1990’s The Hunt for Red October. He was followed by Harrison Ford in 1992’s Patriot Games and 1994’s Clear and Present Danger. Ben Affleck then took over the reins for 2002’s The Sum of All Fears.

Pine, who is currently starring alongside Denzel Washington in Unstoppable, is expected to finalize his deal for the role as the project gets further along.
