HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Clash of the Titans marched to a triumphant $64.1 million debut to easily claim the No. 1 spot at the weekend box office, according to studio estimates released Sunday.
The Warner Bros. epic, starring Sam Worthington as the heroic Perseus and Ralph Fiennes as the villainous Hades, is the latest film to capitalize on the 3D craze, joining the likes of James Cameron’s blockbuster Avatar.
Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Too? bowed in second place at $30.2 million, while the DreamWorks Animation adventure How to Train Your Dragon slipped to third at $29.2 million.
Coming in fourth was Miley Cyrus’ teen drama The Last Song, which premiered with $16.2 million.
Tim Burton and Johnny Depp’s Alice in Wonderland rounded out the top five at $8.3 million.
