HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Wanda Sykes is the latest comedian hoping to bring a few laughs to late-night television.
The 45-year-old Sykes is in the midst of finalizing a deal with Fox to host an hourlong Saturday night show on the network, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The format will revolve around a panel of recurring guests debating both political and pop culture topics, with Sykes also appearing in field segments, the trade publication said.
The show would serve as replacement to the recently canceled sketch comedy show “MadTV.” It is scheduled to premiere in the fall.
The news follows TBS’ recent announcement to develop a late-night show with comedian-actor George Lopez.
Entertainment Weekly named Sykes one of the 25 funniest people in America in 2004. Born in Virginia but raised in the Washington, D.C. area, Sykes previously starred in the short-lived Fox sitcom “Wanda at Large.”
The comic currently stars as Barb on CBS’ “The New Adventures of Old Christine,” while also appearing on HBO’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”
