HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Dan Cortese is returing to primetime television.
The 40-year-old actor has been tabbed to host NBC's new reality competition series, "My Dad Is Better Than Your Dad."
"My Dad" will feature fathers and their kids teaming up to complete stunt-driven challenges. With the physically competitive reality show "American Gladiators" heating up NBC's ratings of late, the network is likely hoping to direct some of its "Gladiator" audience to the new Cortese-led series.
A graduate of the University of North Carolina, where he was once a walk-on football player, Cortese is most famous for being the host of MTV Sports from 1992-1997. He has also appeared in several television series, including "Melrose Place" and "Veronica's Closet," as well as a series of Burger King commercials in the 1990s.
"My Dad" will succeed "American Gladiators" in the 8 p.m. Monday slot beginning Feb. 18. The series is produced by Mark Burnett, whose TV hits include "Survivor," "The Apprentice" and "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?"
