HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Dennis Farina has issued a public apology after being arrested Sunday at Los Angeles International Airport for having a loaded gun in his carry-on luggage.
“I apologize to anyone and everyone that I have caused any embarrassment or inconvenience to,” the 64-year-old actor said in a statement, according to The Associated Press. “It is my own stupidity to find myself in this embarrassing situation.”
Farina was arrested yesterday morning while passing through a security checkpoint. He told officials that he had forgotten the .22-caliber handgun was in his luggage, AP says.
After being booked for investigation of carrying a concealed weapon, officials discovered that Farina’s weapon wasn’t registered. He was then charged with a felony and his bail was set at $35,000.
He posted bail Sunday night and was released, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Web site.
Prior to becoming an actor, Farina was a police officer in Chicago for nearly 20 years.
The “Law & Order” star can currently be seen in the feature film “What Happens in Vegas,” which opened Friday.
