‘G-Force’ Crew Bites ‘Harry Potter’ at the Box Office

G-Force, movie, pictures, photos, picsHOLLYWOOD, Calif. — A covert team of highly trained guinea pigs has figured out the secret to ending Harry Potter’s magic.

Disney’s 3-D spectacular “G-Force” debuted with a $32.2 million opening to take the weekend box office, according to studio estimates released Sunday. Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, the animated film features the voices of Nicolas Cage, Steve Buscemi, Penelope Cruz, Jon Favreau, Sam Rockwell and Tracy Morgan.

“Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,” finished just behind in second place with an estimated $30 million. The total represented a 61 percent drop from the franchise’s record-breaking $79.5 million debut last weekend.

“The Ugly Truth,” starring Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler, debuted in third place with estimated sales of $27 million.

“Orphan” ($12.8 million) and “Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs” ($8.2 million) finished fourth and fifth, respectively, to round out the top five.
