HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Guy Ritchie has some mixed feelings when it comes to reflecting on his ex-wife Madonna.
“I still love her,” the 41-year-old filmmaker, whose blockbuster “Sherlock Holmes” arrives in December, tells Esquire magazine. “But she’s retarded, too.”
While the pair split last year after eight years of marriage, Richie is still an admirer of the “Material Girl’s” sheer determination.
“She’s a manifester, if there ever was one,” he says. “First-rate manifester. Madonna makes things happen. Put Madonna up against any 23-year-old, she’ll outwork them, outdance them, outperform them. The woman is broad.”
Ritchie and Madonna share custody of their two sons Rocco, 9, and David Banda, 4. On the day of the interview, Rocco has biked over to Ritchie’s home with a bodyguard escort. The father and son spend some time watching a UFC fight together and when the time comes for Rocco to go, Ritchie stands at the door and watches with pride. “Look at him!” he says. “Jump the curb. Jump the curb. Good boy.”
“You can’t tell someone when they’re getting divorced that their pain is an illusion,” Richie says. “I’m f—ing telling you, I feel it, I’ve been through that. You have, too. No one can say you don’t feel that.”
