HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Hilary Duff’s reps are hitting back at claims that the singer/actress was caught lip-syncing during a concert stop in Mexico over the weekend.
“She was not lip-syncing,” her rep told People.com. “It was faulty equipment. There was no sound coming out, but she was singing.”
The controversy began when footage of the concert, in which the 20-year-old Duff appears to be mouthing words into a microphone, began circulating on the Internet.
Duff was relying on locally-provided equipment during Saturday’s show, the rep said. The mike was accidentally set on mute for a few seconds, before the problem was fixed and Duff’s pipes took over again.
The incident drums up memories of an incident involving Ashlee Simpson, who was caught lip-syncing on “Saturday Night Live” in 2004.
But Duff’s reps are adamant that she performs live at all her concerts.
The star’s “Dignity” tour has a few more stops in Mexico before moving to Brazil and Australia in the coming weeks.
The former “Lizzy McGuire” star will return to the big screen this year in the coming-of-age drama “Greta,” costarring Ellen Burstyn and Evan Ross, in which she plays a headstrong waitress whose family doesn’t condone her interracial romance.
