HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — “American Idol” contestant David Hernandez is speaking out on claims that he previously worked as a male stripper.
“You know, honestly, I’m here to sing,” Hernandez told EW.com at last night’s “Idol” Top 12 party in West Hollywood.
Earlier this week, the manager of a male strip joint in Phoenix stepped forward to reveal that Hernandez performed nude at his club for three years.
“He had the look and the type that people like, so he made pretty good money here,” Gordy Bryan, the manager of Dick’s Cabaret, told the Associated Press.
Bryan told reporters that the “Idol” contestant left his establishment in September 2007. Hernandez first auditioned for the show on July 30, 2007 in San Diego, Calif.
“I think America’s judging us all off of our voices right now,” Hernandez says. “Obviously they were, because I’m still in the Top 12, thank God.”
So I’m not really concerned with what’s going on [with those reports],” he adds. “I’m just focused on singing, because that’s what I’m here to do.”
