NEW YORK — James Gandolfini turned into his "Tony Soprano" character, launching an attack against an autograph-seeking fan at a New York airport.
The 46-year-old actor became enraged when the man, who was carring a notepad and pen, came a little too close to the his fiancé, Deborah Lin. Gandolfini reacted by reaching out and striking the fan in the face.
The incident, which was captured on camera, happened Tuesday at JFK airport as the couple was traveling back from the Screen Actor's Guild Awards in Los Angeles.
Gandolfini, who won best actor in a drama series for his work on "The Soprano's" at Sunday's SAG Awards, later apologized to the fan, taking time to sign an autograph and pose for a picture.
Gandolfini and Lin, a former fashion model, recently got engaged during the holidays.
The actor, who won multiple awards for portraying the Mafia boss in the HBO series that ended last year, divorced his first wife Marcy in 2002 after four years of marriage.
