HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — John Mayer is going to great lengths to prove that he’s single.
The 31-year-old singer quieted rumors that he’s dating actress Scheana Marie after leaving a kickboxing workout over the weekend.
“If I had a girlfriend, she would be incredibly offended by me saying, ‘I don’t have a girlfriend,’ ” Mayer told X17Online.com. “That’s how you can be sure. I could say, ‘I’m not with anybody.’ That’d be a death wish if you were the woman.”
“If you were the woman and you stepped out and said, ‘I’m not with anybody, you’d have to go home and take a lashing for the next three weeks! So that’s the proof,” he added.
To further prove his singleness, Mayer approached a stranger in a car and asked the middle-aged woman to be his girlfriend. He then sealed the deal with a kiss.
On Friday, People reported that the “Gravity” singer has recently been spending time with Marie, who also works as a bartender and waitress at the Beverly Hills cigar club Grand Havana Room, where the pair reportedly met last year.
“We’re friends,” the 23-year-old Marie told the mag. “He’s a great guy. He’s funny and sweet.”
Mayer has kept a low dating profile since splitting with his ex-girlfriend, actress Jennifer Aniston, earlier this year.
