NASSAU, Bahamas — John Travolta may soon be called on to relive the tragic death of his son.
The 55-year-old Travolta is expected to take the stand in a trial beginning Monday in which two people are accused of trying to extort $25 million from the star.
Paramedic Tarino Lightbourn and Pleasant Bridgewater, a former Bahamian senator, are accused of demanding money from Travolta in exchange for not publicizing a document involving his son’s treatment. The form in question would have released emergency responders from liability if the family refused an ambulance, a situation that never transpired.
Lightbourne was the first paramedic to arrive on the scene when the 16-year-old son of the “Grease” star and his wife, actress Kelly Preston, collapsed from a seizure at his family’s vacation home in the Bahamas on Jan. 2. Jett Travolta later died at a nearby hospital.
Both defendants have pleaded not guilty in the case.
