HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Howard Stern says he was saddened by Jimmy Kimmel’s surprising split from Sarah Silverman earlier this week.
The shock jock spoke about the couple’s break-up on his Sirius radio show, admitting the split, which was announced on Monday, “upset” him.
“Jimmy e-mailed me and said they were going through some tough times,” Stern told his listeners. “I was so upset I had to go take a walk.”
Kimmel told Stern that the couple’s split after five years of dating was a “mutual” decision, admitting to the radio host that he felt like he had “lost his best friend.”
The 54-year-old Stern said he was supposed to vacation with the couple this week. After receiving the e-mail, Stern told Kimmel that he was still welcome to come vacation with him and his fiancé Beth Ostrosky, but the late-night host declined, saying it wouldn’t feel right since it was something they had planned together.
Both Stern and Ostrosky eventually reached out to Silverman via e-mail to express their sorrow. The comedian told them she was “very sad” about the split, while saying Kimmel is “a great guy” and that she hopes he finds someone else.
In January, Silverman appeared on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” where she showed off her video “I’m F***ing Matt Damon”, in which she and Damon, a frequent target of Kimmel’s jokes, sang a duet about having an affair behind the host’s back. The video received an Emmy nomination today for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics.
Kimmel later got revenge with a video of his own titled “I’m F***ing Ben Affleck,” but he was snubbed in today’s nominations.
