HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Kirk Cameron is mourning the death of his Growing Pains co-star Andrew Koenig, whose body was found Thursday in a Vancouver park after he committed suicide.
“It is with great sorrow to hear about the final outcome of the search for my old friend Andrew,” the 39-year-old Cameron told People in a statement. “I hope everyone will be sensitive to the Koenigs and give the family some private time to reflect and to grieve the loss of their beloved son.
“At a time like this, we all are reminded of the briefness of life and the importance of being ready for our eternal destination. My prayers will continue to be with Andrew’s family.”
Koenig, 41, was found dead in Vancouver’s Stanley Park. He was reported missing over the weekend by his family, who said he was “suffering from depression.” He was last seen at a Vancouver bakery on Feb. 14.
Cameron played Mike Seaver on the popular ’80s television series, while Koenig played his best friend Richard “Boner” Stabone.
