HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Like, oh my God, MGM has set the wheels in motion on a musical remake of the ’80s cult favorite “Valley Girl.”

According to Variety, the studio plans to utilize the “Romeo and Juliet” storyline of the original “Valley Girl” and feature classic songs from the ’80s in the new movie.

In the 1983 version, Nicolas Cage and Deborah Foreman starred as lovers from opposite ends of the track. Cage’s character Randy was an edgy punk-rocker from the city, while Foreman’s Julie was a good girl from the San Fernando Valley.

The film featured a hit soundtrack of ’80s classics, including Modern English’s “I Melt with You,” the Psychedelic Furs’ “Love My Way,” and The Plimsouls’ “A Million Miles Away.”

A year before the film was released, Frank Zappa released the hit single “Valley Girl,” which featured his 14-year-old daughter Moon Unit spouting the typical “Valley girl” lingo. Zappa later tried to sue the film’s producers, Wayne Crawford and Andrew Lane, but the lawsuit was thrown out of court.

The remake is based on an idea from Idealogy’s Sean Bailey and Matt Smith, who will serve as producers on the updated version.

There’s no word yet on when the remake will arrive in theaters, but either way, it’s certain to be totally radical, dude!
