HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Lindsay Lohan was taken into custody Tuesday morning and transported to the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, Calif., where she began serving a three-month sentence for violating probation in a 2007 DUI case.
The 24-year-old actress was handcuffed after a brief hearing before Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Marsha Revel. The judge sentenced Lohan to jail two weeks ago for missing seven court-ordered alcohol education classes.
Lohan was accompanied to court by her mother, Dina, and younger sister, Ali. Her estranged father, Michael, was also present.
A wild scene ensued after Lohan was taken into custody as the paparazzi chased her being transported to jail. The starlet was booked into custody at 10:11 a.m. and underwent routine medical and psychiatric tests. Officials say she will be kept away from the general population at the all-women’s jail, where she famously served 84 minutes in 2006.
Legal experts say Lohan will likely serve less than a month due to jail overcrowding.
On Monday, Lohan joked about her plight in a final message to her Twitter followers.
"The only ‘bookings’ that i’m familiar with are Disney Films," she wrote. "Never thought that i’d be ‘booking’ into Jail… eeeks"
