HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Actress Melanie Griffith has checked herself into a rehab facility.
“She is there to reinforce her commitment to stay healthy,” the 52-year-old star’s rep told Entertainment Tonight. “This is part of a routine plan that was designed between her and her doctors years ago.”
According to published reports, the actress, who has battled substance abuse problems since her teens, is seeking treatment at the Cirque Lodge in Utah.
A source told Star that Griffith was sent to rehab as a last straw by her husband of 13 years, actor Antonio Banderas.
“She’s working with the counselors on getting control of her demons,” said the insider.
“The reason Melanie checked in was her husband was demanding that she get clean and sober,” added another source. “He told her that if she didn’t get the help she needed it would be the end of their marriage.”
This is Griffith’s third stint in rehab in recent time.
“Overcoming addictions is tough but it can be made easier if you have someone that can offer support,” Griffith once said on her Web site. “My husband and family supported me so much through this journey and continue to do so.
