Jackson wore the rhinestone-studded glove when he unveiled the moonwalk in 1983 on Motown’s 25th-anniversary TV special. It was purchased by Hong Kong businessman Hoffman Ma at a music memorabilia sale held by Julien’s Auctions at the Hard Rock Cafe in New York’s Times Square.

A black jacket that Jackson wore during a 1989 world tour also fetched $225,000, with most of his items selling at 10-20 times more than initial estimates.

Jackson, who died on June 25 at age 50, gave the white glove to Walter “Clyde” Orange of the Commodores after his 1983 performance.
