HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Fans hoping to catch one final glimpse of legendary Michael Jackson at his famous estate will have to pay their respects in a different fashion.
On Wednesday, the late singer’s family announced that plans to hold a public memorial Friday at the music icon’s Neverland Ranch have been canceled.
“Contrary to previous news reports, the Jackson family is officially stating that there will be no public or private viewing at Neverland,” read a Jackson family statement. “Plans are underway regarding a public memorial for Michael Jackson, and we will announce those plans shortly.”
Plans for the memorial at the sprawling estate near Santa Barbara, Calif. were first revealed yesterday. However, the family was unable to obtain a residential exemption required for a burial on private property.
A private memorial service for Jackson, who died last Thursday at the age of 50, has also yet to be finalized.
