LONDON — Morrissey is in stable condition after collapsing on stage Saturday night during a concert in England.

The 50-year-old British singer was released from Great Western Hospital in Swindon on Sunday after being kept overnight for observation.

“He’s been seen by the medical team, much improved and now discharged home,” a hospital spokesperson told Reuters.

Morrissey was in the midst of performing “This Charming Man” when he appeared to experience breathing difficulties during Saturday’s concert at the Oasis Leisure Centre. Onlookers said he appeared to be “straining” as he performed the 1983 hit.

At the end of the song, Morrissey slumped to his knees and collapsed on stage. He was later carried off by two band members.

“There was a wait of about 25 minutes before one of the stage crew came on and said Morrissey had left the building, and that he was seriously ill,” concertgoer Mark Taylor told London’s Sunday Telegraph. “Everybody started booing, thinking ‘here we go again.’ He has a bit of a poor track record for cancelling his concerts.”

Morrissey has experienced a number of health issues in recent time, having already canceled a number of tour dates this year.

Morrissey has enjoyed a successful solo career ever since The Smiths split in 1988. He is scheduled to perform several dates in the U.S. this December.
