‘New Moon’ Hit with a ‘Blind Side’ at Weekend Box Office

The Blind SideHOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Sandra Bullock and company have pulled off quite the upset.

Bullock’s football-inspired drama The Blind Side raked in $20.4 million over the weekend to claim the box office title, according to studio estimates released Sunday. The picture claimed the top spot after finishing as the runner-up to The Twilight Saga: New Moon for the last two weekends.

New Moon fell to second place with $15.7 million. The vampire film has now brought in a whopping $570.1 million worldwide.

The war drama Brothers debuted at No. 3 with $9.7 million.

Disney’s A Christmas Carol ($7.5 million) and Old Dogs ($6.9 million) rounded out the top five, respectively.

George Clooney’s critically-acclaimed Up in the Air also made headlines as it brought in nearly $1.2 million despite playing in just 15 theaters during its limited-release debut.
