SEOUL, South Korea — North Korea has released the two American journalists convicted in March of sneaking into the country illegally, the Associated Press reports.
North Korean leader Kim Jong Il issued a “special pardon” on Tuesday to journalists Laura Ling and Euna Lee after meeting with former President Bill Clinton.
Ling, 32, and Lee, 36, were sentenced to 12 years of hard labor in June after being accused of sneaking into the country illegally and engaging in “hostile acts.”
The two journalists both work for Current TV, an independant media company led by Clinton’s former Vice President, Al Gore.
