HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Padma Lakshmi has become a mother for the first time.
The Top Chef host gave birth to a baby girl named Krishna Thea Lakshmi on Saturday,” her rep confirmed to People.
“Mother and baby are well and happy,” said the star’s publicist.
The model, author and Emmy-nominated host first announced the pregnancy in October after years of struggling with endometriosis. The 39-year-old Lakshmi has long been an advocate for the condition, in which the tissue that normally lines the uterus grows in other areas of the body, resulting in pain, irregular bleeding and possible infertility.
Last month, Lakshmi hinted about her daughter’s name, telling People, “I am going to name the child an Indian name. It will be after someone in my family, so don’t expect to see an Anglicized name – it will be a classically Indian Sanskrit name.”
Lakshmi has never revealed the identity of her baby’s father. She was previously married to author Salman Rushdie, but they divorced in 2007 after three years of marriage.
