NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A country songwriter has been arrested in connection with the death of comedian Cheri Oteri’s father, the Associated Press reports.
Richard William Fagan, 61, was arrested and charged with criminal homicide, police officials told AP. Gaetano Thomas Oteri, 69, was stabbed to death in Nashville, Tenn. on Saturday night.
According to police, Fagan and Oteri were roomates. It is believed that they got into an argument Saturday night, leading to Fagan’s fatal stabbing.
Following the incident, Fagan was arrested and charged with driving under the influence. He then posted bail on Sunday, but was soon arrested with his bail bondsman at his side, AP says.
Fagan co-wrote the No. 1 songs “Be My Baby Tonight” and “Sold (The Grundy County Auction Incident)” for country artist John Michael Montgomery.
Officials told AP that the former “Saturday Night Live” star, who recently completed shooting the feature “Major Movie Star,” was aware of her father’s death.
