‘Precious’ Dominates 25th Spirit Awards

PreciousLOS ANGELES — Precious won five times, including best feature, to dominate the 25th Film Independent Spirit Awards held Friday night in Los Angeles.

The Harlem drama also won for best director (Lee Daniels), best first screenplay (Geoffrey Fletcher), best actress (Gabourey Sidibe) and best supporting actress (Mo’Nique).

The country-music tale Crazy Heart won best first feature for director Scott Cooper and best actor honors for Jeff Bridges.

(500) Days of Summer, Anvil! The Story of Anvil, An Education, Humpday, The Messenger, and A Serious Man also received awards at the milestone ceremony, held at L.A. Live’s event deck.

Comedian Eddie Izzard served as Master of Ceremonies at the event, which was broadcast live on IFC.
