HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Rachel McAdams is dreaming about her future as a mother, perhaps thanks to taking on her first motherly role in "The Time Traveler's Wife."
"Having a few [kids] would be great," McAdams told People at the New York City premiere of her new film, which opens Friday.
The 30-year-old Canadian actress has been most recently linked to Josh Lucas, but the pair is said to have broken up. McAdams would not confirm the breakup, instead offering an "I'm sorry but I don't talk about my personal life," when asked if she's still dating the actor.
Whenever marriage and family do come calling, McAdams said she'll pattern herself after her own mother.
"My mom is a great inspiration to me," she said. "She's a nurse and very nurturing and gentle. She lets me be who I am. Hopefully I can take on those qualities and be as great as her."
As for her role opposite Eric Bana, McAdams said it was a welcome change to a career that has included such films as "Mean Girls," "The Notebook" and "Wedding Crashers."
"I was excited and nervous about it because I haven't done it before. It was a welcome challenge," she said of playing a mother. "The little girls [Hailey McCann and Tatum McCann] in this film were so fantastic. They are real sisters and they made my job really easy. So I didn't have to work too hard at that."
