Police say the 79-year-old actor was so intoxicated on the night of Jan. 29 that he broke into the Litchfield Bancorp branch with a loaded gun, believing he was at his home in nearby Salisbury.

Torn is charged with criminal trespass, carrying a gun without a permit, carrying a gun while intoxicated, burglary and criminal mischief.

His attorney told the court that the Emmy winner is making progress in his alcohol rehabilitation program and has moved from an inpatient to an outpatient program.

It is the latest legal hurdle for Torn, who has been arrested several times in recent years for drunken driving. Last year, he received probation stemming from a Connecticut conviction that required him to enter an alcohol education program.

Torn, who won an Emmy for The Larry Sanders Show, is due back in court on April 27.
