HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — It may be the butt of several jokes, but “The Room” movie is getting the last laugh.
The 2003 independent film, written and directed by its star, Tommy Wiseau, continues to be a cult favorite despite often being hailed by critics as one of the worst movies ever made.
Wiseau spent over $6 million making the film, described as a black comedy, which revolves around a love triangle between a kind-hearted man named Johnny (Wiseau), his fiancée Lisa (Juliette Danielle), and his best friend Mark (Greg Sestero).
As Wiseau was wandering around Comic-Con in San Diego last week, his movie phenom was debuting in Toronto at a sold-out Royal. That’s because despite widespread criticism, “The Room” continues to find a new audience during midnight screenings that carry on throughout the U.S. and beyond.
