Tiger WoodsHOLLYWOOD, Calif. — The future of golf may have just taken a major swing.

Tiger Woods and his wife, model Elin Nordegren, welcomed a baby boy on Sunday, the golf star confirmed on his official Web site. It is the second child for the couple, who married in 2004.

“Elin and I are thrilled to announce the birth of our son, Charlie Axel Woods,” wrote the world’s top-ranked golfer. “Both Charlie and Elin are doing great and we want to thank everyone for their sincere best wishes and kind thoughts.”

Woods and Nordegren welcomed daughter Sam Alexis in June 2007. Woods has long said that he hoped to have more than one child. He was an only child, while Nordegren has a twin sister.

“Sam is very excited to be a big sister and we feel truly blessed to have such a wonderful family,” wrote Woods.

The 33-year-old PGA star is still in the midst of recovering from reconstructive surgery on his left knee following his U.S. Open win last June, but he previously admitted that his injury turned out to be a blessing.

“While my injury has been disappointing and frustrating, it has allowed me to spend a lot of time watching Sam grow,” he said. “I can’t begin to tell you how rewarding it is being a dad and spending time with her and Elin.”

Now that his new baby has arrived, many believe Woods will return to the course by defending his title at the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship, which begins on Feb. 25.
