HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Tiger Woods apparently didn’t avoid the police after all.
The embattled 33-year-old golfer met with authorities four days after his now infamous Nov. 27 car crash outside his Florida home, a police spokesperson tells Orlando’s WESH-TV.
FHP spokeswoman Kim Montes says Woods and his attorney, Mark NeJame, met with two captains and a trooper at an undisclosed location in Orlando on Dec. 1. During the meeting, Woods was issued a $164 traffic ticket for careless driving.
Police also observed Woods to make certain that his injuries were consistent with a traffic accident. There was speculation that the PGA star may have been involved in a dispute with his wife, Elin Nordegren, but troopers only noted a “fat lip” on Woods and ruled out a domestic violence incident.
The accident came shortly after the National Enquirer published a story alleging that Woods was having an affair with Rachel Uchitel, a New York nightclub manager. After the first affair allegation, several more women stepped forward claiming to have engaged in sexual trysts with Woods, including former VH1 Tool Academy contestant Jaimee Grubbs and porn star Holly Sampson.
Woods later admitted to cheating on his wife, while also announcing plans to put his golf career on an “indefinite” hold in order to focus on his family.
“I am deeply aware of the disappointment and hurt that my infidelity has caused to so many people, most of all my wife and children,” he said in a statement on his official Web site. “I want to say again to everyone that I am profoundly sorry and that I ask forgiveness. It may not be possible to repair the damage I’ve done, but I want to do my best to try.”
