HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Led by returning voice stars Tom Hanks and Tim Allen, Toy Story 3 easily topped the weekend box office with a $109 million opening, according to studio estimates released Sunday.
The total marked the biggest debut in the history of Disney’s Pixar Animation, breaking a mark previously held by The Incredibles.
The animated film took over the No. 1 spot from Sony’s remake of The Karate Kid, which slipped to second place at $29 million.
The A-Team pulled in $13.8 million in its second week to finish third.
Get Him to the Greek ($6.1 million) and Shrek Forever After ($5.5 million) finished fourth and fifth, respectively, to round out the top five.
