HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Michael Douglas and Oliver Stone struck it rich over the weekend as the sequel Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps opened as the No. 1 movie with ticket sales of $19 million, according to studio estimates released Sunday.
The follow-up to the 1987 blockbuster Wall Street claimed the top spot over the animated adventure Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole, which premiered in second place at $16.3 million.
Last weekend’s top film, Ben Affleck’s The Town, slipped to third place this week at $16 million.
The teen comedy Easy A finished fourth at $10.7 million, followed by the mother-daughter comedy You Again, which debuted at $8.3 million to round out the top five.
