NEW YORK — Valerie Bertinelli says her ex-husband Eddie Van Halen is not in a rehab facility, as several media outlets have speculated.
"The reports about him being in rehab are wrong. Eddie is sober," Bertinelli said Wednesday at a luncheon hosted by the Hallmark Channel, according to People.com. "He's being proactive about his illness."
When pressed further, the 47-year-old Bertinelli said, "I don't think it's my place [to comment.]"
Van Halen, 53, the group's lead guitarist and co-founder, has battled cancer and substance abuse over the years. Last week, the band announced that it was postponing four dates on its current reunion tour as he seeks medical treatment.
"According to Eddie Van Halen's physician, he is undergoing a battery of comprehensive medical tests to determine a defined diagnosis and recommended medical procedures," the band revealed in a statement on their Web site.
Yesterday, the group extended their postponed dates through April 19.
"He wants to get back on tour," Bertinelli added. "I think they'll be back on the road by April 19."
Last fall, the legendary rockers returned to touring with original lead singer David Lee Roth for the first time in more than 20 years.
