HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Christmas has arrived early for fans of Nine Inch Nails.
In an unprecedented move, the band is offering its new album, "The Slip," for free as a reward to its longtime fans. The album became available via the band's Web site (www.NIN.com) at 12:01 a.m. this morning.
"Thank you for your continued and loyal support over the years — this one's on me," frontman Trent Reznor said in a statement posted on the site.
Nine Inch Nails still plans to release the 10-track album on CD and vinyl through traditional methods in July.
"We didn't want 'business' to get in the way of getting the art in the hands of the fans," the band's manager Jim Guerinot tells Billboard.com. "We've looked at the climate and the many advantages of being able to do whatever we want without bureaucracy."
