HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Tila Tequila is firing back after being involved in a domestic dispute early Sunday with San Diego Chargers star Shawne Merriman.
The MTV star, whose real name is Tila Nguyen, is shooting down claims by authorities that she was drunk when the altercation took place, citing her documented history of staying away from cocktails.
"I am allergic to alcohol," she wrote Sunday night on her Twitter page. "It has been publicly known for years. That is how I got the name Tila 'Tequila' cuz the irony. I cant drink."
Tequila, 27, called the police around 3:45 a.m. after Merriman allegedly refused to let her leave his home in Poway, Calif., located just north of San Diego. Tequila alleged that the Pro Bowl star choked her and threw her to the ground. She later signed a citizen's arrest warrant, charging Merriman with battery and false imprisonment.
Merriman, 25, was taken into custody and booked into the Central Jail around 8:30 a.m. He was released shortly after 11 a.m.
Merriman and Tequila spent most of Saturday night at local hotspot Stingaree in San Diego's Gaslamp District.
Merriman's attorney, Todd Macaluso, said Tequila was "extremely intoxicated" and that his client tried to arrange transportation for her to leave his home.
"At no time did Mr. Merriman assault her; at no time did Mr. Merriman keep her against her will," said Macaluso.
Tequila, however, says the whole story isn't being told.
"I fear nothing and no one. You know that," she tweeted. "God saw everything and God will always know the truth.....Only the truth behind those curtains....
Added Tequila: "I have a baggage with me loaded with interesting truths inside of it....."
