HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Zac Efron says the story about him visiting a strip club last weekend in New York City is totally true, but don't get the wrong idea.
"I'm not really a type of guy who does this kind of thing often," the 22-year-old actor joked Wednesday on Jimmy Kimmel Live. "I had this image of what it'd be like. I've heard a lot about these places, mostly from rap music – they're supposed to be pretty reputable! So I envisioned myself on a nice couch in stunna shades with T-Pain and Usher making it rain money. And it just wasn't like that."
Efron denied reports that he dropped upwards of $2,000 at Flashdancers Gentlemen's Club, where he was joined by fellow High School Musical star Corbin Bleu and another friend.
"I don't think I opened my wallet," he recalled.
As for his significant other, Efron said he called girlfriend Vanessa Hudgens to get her permission before he stepped foot in the club.
"That's the awkward part. It's like how do you even start that conversation without feeling like a total a--hole?" he told Kimmel. [But] she was fine with it, yeah."
Efron's new movie, Charlie St. Cloud, opens in theaters this weekend.
