The star-studded event was hosted by comedian, multi-platinum recording artist and Oscar-award winner Jamie Foxx. The Concert and Awards Ceremony featured the induction of two royal new honorees into the Apollo Legends Hall of Fame: the undisputed King of Pop Michael Jackson, and the one and only Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin. The Apollo also saluted the great Lena Horne. The Ruby Dee & Ossie Davis Arts and Humanitarian Award was presented to superstar couple Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony. The Theater's annual corporate award was given to JP Morgan Chase for its ongoing commitment to the Apollo and the Harlem community. The all-star lineup featured special appearances by Angela Bassett, Danny Glover and Chris Tucker. Performers include Sharon Jones, Estelle, Leslie Uggams, Marsha Ambrosius of Floetry, Donnie McClurkin and Amateur Night winner Clark King. Music director for the evening was Ray Chew. The Benefit concluded with a grand tented after-party and the Apollo Supper Club. The Spring Benefit is the largest fundraiser of the year for the Apollo Theater Foundation. Thanks to generous gifts from individuals and corporations, the proceeds from this event and all other fundraising activities help to sustain the legacy of the Apollo and to enhance its education and community programs.
